The Sea, a Terrace, a Way of Life

HOUSE IN CALELLA

Gallery

Set right on the water in Calella de Palafrugell, on the Costa Brava, this house is a project in which the Mediterranean is present everywhere. Verónica Mimoun Studio is behind the complete interior design, an intervention that makes the most of the home’s privileged position and creates a summer house that is bright, welcoming and full of personality. The palette is warm and natural—white, sand, oak and rattan—enlivened with touches of aqua green, terracotta and coral red that evoke the seascape. Round arches, found throughout the house, act as a unifying architectural element that gives the whole an unmistakably Mediterranean character.

The Entrance

A black Bow designer console by 101 Copenhagen with openwork legs, an oval mirror with a bronze frame and a green glass vase filled with red flowers announce the personality of the project from the very first moment: elegant, warm and full of color. A custom white lacquered closet provides discreet storage. In the background, a round arch frames the way through to the interior.

The Staircase

The stairwell is one of the most evocative spaces in the house. Steps coated in Mortex, the original white-lacquered round-tube railing, a large strelitzia in a white planter and a Bok bench by Ethnicraft in natural wood on a Canevas Geo Coral rug by Gan Rugs in toasted orange compose a fresh, Mediterranean image. The windows with wooden slats filter the outside light, creating a serene atmosphere in which plants and natural objects take center stage.

The Living Room

The living room is conceived as the social heart of the home, in a double-height space that connects visually with the kitchen and dining room on the upper floor. Several sofas upholstered in Crevin fabric surround a sculptural Androgyne lounge table in natural oak by Audo Copenhagen, set on a jute rug that anchors the arrangement. Decorative pillows in fabrics by Casamance and Armura. To one side, an Insert side table by Ferm Living. An exposed-brick fireplace brings character and memory. A round mirror with a woven rattan frame presides over the main wall. The large anthracite-framed windows open fully onto the terrace, merging the interior with the sea views.

The Terrace

This is the most remarkable space in the project: a large covered porch facing directly onto the bay of Calella, with panoramic views over the boats at anchor and the whitewashed village. The flooring is finished in Mortex. Two white outdoor sofas in Güell Lamadrid fabric, with piping and pillows in a red Zeconzeta fabric, flank a floor-level fire pit that acts as the focal point. Poufs in the same red-and-white chevron fabric as the pillows, an anthracite outdoor dining table by Unopiù with matching chairs and a white ceiling fan complete a space designed to be lived in from sunrise to sunset, from morning coffee to long, lingering meals with the Mediterranean as a backdrop.

The Kitchen and Dining Room

The kitchen features off-white cabinets and a central island with a cream Inalco porcelain countertop and an integrated induction cooktop. Above the island, A-Tube suspension lights by Lodes. Sage-green stools by Pedrali, a ceiling-integrated range hood by Frecan and Doo-Wop pendant lamps by Louis Poulsen complete the space. The dining room is arranged around a natural wood table by Ethnicraft and sage-green chairs by Inclass, with direct sea views through the windows with Mallorcan shutters.

The Primary Suite

Bedroom and bathroom flow together in an open sequence of great spaciousness and sensory richness. The bathroom is organized around a floating natural oak vanity with twin travertine vessel sinks, matte gilded brass faucets by Zucchetti and two hanging oval mirrors. The white oval freestanding tub by Hidrobox, raised to take in the sea view, presides over the space, with an elegantly curved floor-mounted brass tub filler. The double shower with twin brass rain heads is framed within a volume clad in sand-colored microcement. An aqua-tinted glass panel defines the wet area without interrupting the visual continuity. The bedroom, with direct sea views, has a headboard upholstered in Güell Lamadrid fabric, bedding in white and dusty pink, and natural oak nightstands with Flowerpot lamps by &Tradition.

The Dressing Room

Next to the suite, the custom cream lacquered dressing room, with a central island of drawers and floor-to-ceiling closets, offers impeccable functionality in a serene, well-lit setting.

The TV Room

Reached through a round arch, this room is arranged around an aqua-green sofa in Geneve Vintage fabric, a custom unit with open modules and drawers, and a Samsung The Frame television integrated into the composition. A patterned pouf in Zeconzeta fabric and a heavy curtain that can be drawn to make the space private complete a room designed for family enjoyment.

The Bedrooms

Each bedroom has its own character. The first, with two twin beds, is dressed in beige Crevin fabric, with terracotta and old rose pillows on sand-colored linen bedding. The second, the most intimate in the house, has a sage-green headboard upholstered in Crevin fabric, a waffle blanket in the same shade and a Gubi Seine smoked glass pendant lamp. The third features a peach-toned headboard and two amber glass Mega Bulb pendant lamps by &Tradition that bathe the room in a warm, enveloping light.

The Bathrooms

The secondary bathrooms share the same natural, warm language: walls and floors in sand-colored Mortex, a floating cream lacquered vanity with a sink integrated into a white Corian countertop, a full-width mirror and a rain shower by Rovira. Bottle-green accessories—soap dish, dispenser and small ceramic pieces—introduce a touch of leafy color in perfect harmony with the surroundings.

Verónica Mimoun

Altogether, this project reflects the philosophy of Verónica Mimoun Studio: creating homes that breathe the spirit of the place where they stand, where beauty, functionality and emotion live together in perfect balance. A house by the sea that invites you to live slowly and to enjoy the light and shared moments.
